Soloppgang makes music at the intersection of vulnerability and hope. Playful rhythms, harmonies and close narratives merge into a psychedelic gospel vibe.

Born on Voss, raised on the prairies of North Dakota and living on the ocean in the Arctic, Solvei carries many impressions with her into her music. Songwriting has been both play and life practice since the age of five. Her earliest stage experiences took place in the church, where she performed a wide range of bluegrass, gospel, and hymns with her brothers weekly.
Her education took her through classical music and jazz, before later exploring harder expressions such as rock, rap, pop, growling and punk. It's her vocals and stage presence that makes her stand out.
Solvei has a well-established band project, Gypsy Chicken, along with Joanna Kreft. Over eight years and three albums, they have explored society's shadow sides with courage and absurdity.
In the solo music, Solvei turns inward, encountering the dark corners of life with a vulnerable light and a lusty voice. The solo music is older and more deeply rooted, but has politely taken the space that remains between the gusts of life.
In the summer of 2025, a fire took everything Solvei owned, as well as her job in the cultural field, which could not withstand the sick leave that followed. In what was gone, a new space also opened up. Now she is recording her very first single under the name Soloppgang (Sunrise).
By the way, she recommends that everyone get proper insurance. (Fortunately, she had.)
